Secunda Synfuels Operations (SSO) operates the world’s largest coal-to-liquids (CTL) facility and produces synthesis gas (syngas) through coal gasification and natural gas reforming, using Sasol’s unique and proprietary Fischer-Tropsch technology to manufacture synthetic fuel components, pipeline gas and chemical feedstock.
ABOUT THE ROLE / PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To ensure continuous plant availability through effectively performing all artisan functions related to petrochemical plant instrumentation and control system maintenance, operations support and fault finding
FUNCTIONAL OUTPUTS
- Strong instrumentation and control system skills
- Execution of tasks associated with maintenance inspections and strategies
- Able to assist with modifications/upgrades on existing control systems
- Able to scope and execute small projects
- Instrumentation calibration and maintenance abilities
- Loop tuning knowledge
- An ability to read and interpret instrument loop drawings, control logic diagrams, data sheets and associated technical documents
- Conduct instrumentation Safety inspections (SHERQ)
- Knowledge of MOC (management of change) process and requirements
- Data and document extraction and analysis (fault finding, trends etc.)
- Control valve overhaul, inspection and test experience
- DCS experience (Honeywell Experion)
- Safety Manager ( SM and FSC experience (Honeywell)
- A practical understanding of functional safety systems, e.g. SIL
- A practical understanding of EX and hazardous area classifications, e.g. IS, Ex
- QA/QC experience on instrumentation installations
- Support with Shutdown planning and execution
- Full compliance to section 14 of the OHS act, employee safety.
- A working understanding of the electrical installation regulations (OHS act)
- Installation, testing and commissioning new/repaired instrumentation installations in accordance with Sasol specifications
- Proactive identification and correction of defects and preventative maintenance
- Work in diverse work team under supervision of plant Maintenance Foreman
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Drivers’ license (Code B)
- RFA Fitness – This position requires pre-employment medical examination which includes a physical fitness assessment as part of the normal selection criteria
Qualifications:
- National senior certificate with Maths, Science & English
- NQF 4 Occupational Trade Test (Instruments)
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a qualified Artisan
