ABOUT THE POSITION
The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development is looking for a reliable, hard-working, and experienced individual to join the team in Buffelspoort. This is a permanent government position. You will play a major role in everyday farming operations, research support, and land care. If you know how to handle big farm machines and you have a passion for agriculture, this job is for you.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- To get this job, you must meet the following entry requirements:
- Education: Grade 10 certificate (Standard 8) or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience: At least five (5) years of working experience in driving tractors and operating specialized agricultural equipment.
- Driver’s License: A valid Code C1 driver’s license (heavy motor vehicle license).
- Permit: A valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) is compulsory.
- Knowledge: Basic understanding of tractor maintenance, crop production, and safety regulations on a farm.
⚙️ KEY PERFORMANCE DUTIES
- If you are successful, your daily tasks will include:1. Operating Tractors and Special Machinery
- Drive farm tractors with different attachments like ploughs, planters, and harvesters.
- Operate specialized equipment used for research and crop production.
- Move heavy farm materials, tools, and produce across the site.2. Maintenance and Care of Vehicles
- Do daily checks on water, oil, tyre pressure, and brake fluid before starting work.
- Wash and clean the tractors and tools regularly.
- Report all mechanical faults, breakdowns, and accidents to the supervisor immediately.
- Keep the vehicle logbook updated for every single trip.3. General Farm Support
- Assist with land preparation, planting, spraying, and harvesting crops.
- Help with loading and unloading items from the vehicles.
- Clean the workshop, storage sheds, and farm yards when required.
- Follow strict Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) rules to avoid injuries.
️ REQUIRED SKILLS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
- Communication: Ability to read and write in English and understand basic instructions.
- Problem Solving: Ability to spot basic mechanical problems on the tractor.
- Teamwork: Able to work well with farm managers, researchers, and other labourers.
- Physical Fitness: Capable of doing hard physical work in outdoor weather conditions.
