The vacancies are distributed across a number of special schools and education districts, including Mopani West, Vhembe West, Vhembe East, Capricorn North, Capricorn South, Mogalakwena, Mopani East, Sekhukhune South, Sekhukhune East and Waterberg.

Purpose of the Position

The Social Worker will provide professional social work services to learners and support the psychosocial wellbeing of learners within the school environment.

The role involves assessing learners’ social and emotional circumstances, identifying challenges affecting their wellbeing and development, providing counselling and recommending appropriate interventions.

Social Workers will also work with families, communities, educators and other professionals to ensure that learners receive the appropriate support and services they require.

Because many of the positions are located at special schools, experience in working with learners with special educational needs will be an added advantage.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should carefully check that they meet the prescribed requirements before applying.

  • An NQF Level 7 qualification in Social Work recognised by SAQA.
  • Valid and active registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
  • Relevant experience as a Social Worker.
  • Experience working with learners with special educational needs will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge and ability to study, interpret, apply and provide information relating to legislation and policies.
  • Ability to perform statutory functions and attend court proceedings.
  • Ability to produce and maintain professional records and reports.

  • Counselling and case-management skills.
  • Crisis-intervention skills.

Main Duties

The successful candidates will be responsible for providing professional social work services to learners and supporting their psychosocial development.

Key duties include conducting assessments to identify the conditions and needs of learners and providing appropriate counselling.

Social Workers will recommend relevant interventions, make referrals where necessary and implement recommended interventions. They will also provide continuous support to individuals, groups, families and communities.

Other responsibilities include monitoring the effectiveness and progress of interventions, providing psychosocial support, supporting **child-protection initiatives** and participating in multidisciplinary teams.

The position therefore requires candidates who can work professionally with learners while collaborating with educators, families, health professionals, social-service organisations and other relevant stakeholders.

HOW TO APPLY

Applications must be submitted using the prescribed Z83 Application for Employment form, accompanied by a detailed CV containing information about the applicant’s training, qualifications, competencies, knowledge and experience.
